What are Skin Rashes?
The term ‘skin rashes‘ refers to any condition that leads to a change in the way your skin looks or feels. These conditions may be chronic (long-term) or acute (short-term). Some skin rashes resolve on their own while others may require medical treatment to fully resolve. Eczema, hives, athlete’s foot, poison ivy, and skin allergies are just a few of the forms that skin rashes may take.
Skin rashes may be treated with one or a combination of medication, topical creams or ointments, or by avoiding triggers.
The symptoms of skin rashes include:
- Red patches on the skin
- Scaly skin
- Flaking skin
- Peeling skin
- Raised or bumpy areas
- Itchy skin
Call your dermatologist if your skin rash is all over your body, is accompanied by a fever, becomes infected, is blistering or painful, or starts quickly and spreads. These symptoms may indicate an allergy or an infection and should be evaluated by a dermatologist as quickly as possible.
